You will learn luxury manicure techniques (including how to use gel polishes), luxury pedicure techniques, facials including male skin care, hair removal using wax, client care including customer service skills and sale techniques. In addition, face treatments including; ‘BT micro’, enhancing features through eyebrow shaping, tinting, eyelash tinting and the application of strip lashes

I really enjoy doing my own makeup, and have always learnt better in a hands-on, practical environment, so the Beauty Therapy course seemed like an obvious choice after I completed my GCSEs. Throughout the qualification we will also be working on the development of your employability skills as well as your Maths and English skills. The areas studied include:

- Anatomy & physiology
- Principles of practice for beauty therapists, how to work with others as part of a team and client care and communication.
- Hair removal treatments including hot and cold wax on areas such as legs, bikini line, underarm and facial area.
- Facial and skin analysis using various products including Kaeso, Dermalogica and natural ingredients adapted to use in a treatment.
- Manicure and pedicure treatments including shaping the nails, the use of paraffin wax, heated mitts, exfoliants, masks and how to prepare the nails for a gel polish by pushing back untidy cuticles without damage to the nail bed.
- Light cured gel polish safe and hygienic application to increase the time it stays on the nails and how to effectively and swiftly remove the product
- Lash and brow treatments: shaping brows using wax and tweezers, trimming brows to enhance features, tinting lashes and brows to enhance the natural looks of the face.
- Apply make-up: chose colours for different looks and to enhance your client's skin tone and face shape producing a variety of looks for different occasions.
- Male skincare treatments: how to adapt treatments to improve your male client's skin type and condition.
Throughout the qualification, a range of theory and practical assessments will support your learning and test your knowledge and skills development. You will need to be prepared to work outside of lessons to support your learning.

On-going assessment is by multiple choice question tests that you complete online, as well as working on clients to gain competency and confidence within this speciality field.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.

In order to succeed on this course, a creative flair and imagination will be needed.
You will require a high standard of personal presentation and good communication skills, as well as the ability to study anatomy and physiology. In addition you will be expected to gain 4 GCSEs at least a grade 3 or equivalent, preferably including, GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above. However, if you have not gained a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and / or English you will be expected to continue studying these subjects.
Following the successful completion of all aspects of the programme, you will be ready to progress on to a Level 3 beauty related programme such as beauty therapy, Nail Technology, or a Level 3 apprenticeship.
Some learners choose to enter employment in the beauty sector in salons, spas or beauty counters.
You will train in our fully-equipped beauty salon with access to up-to-date equipment and resources. You will be taught by professional staff with several years of industry experience.
Most lecturers are still employed within the industry to ensure their skills stay current and relevant.
Please bring a lever arch folder, poly pockets, pen and paper as well as a copy of your GCSE qualifications.

Q: Will I need a kit for this course and how much will it cost?
A: Yes, you will need to purchase a kit containing your tools and products for the course. Each kit costs approximately £300, but there are means-tested bursaries available to help towards the cost for more information please contact advice and guidance.

Q: Will I be expected to wear a uniform?
A: Yes, it is a requirement that you wear professional attire for all your practical salons. This will include a tunic, you will receive an order form for the tunic, black trousers and flat black shoes.

Q: How many days will I be expected to be in college?
A: You will be expected to be in college for approximately 3 days per week between the hours of 9:30 and 2:30

Q: Can I still have a part time job and study?
A: Yes, you can have a job, however, we recommend that you only work for 10 hours per week.
