This two-year qualification has a proven track record of providing students with the skills and knowledge to develop highly successful careers in the dynamic and exciting world of hospitality and catering.

On this practical programme, you will learn subjects including:

- Pastry and Dough
- Meat, Fish and Vegetable Cookery
- Wine Appreciation
- Table Theatre Techniques

You will develop your talents through working in our commercial kitchens and contemporary restaurant.

You will be assessed on practical culinary performance and on written assignments. Work experience will form part of the programme.
The programme is assessed with a mixture of continuous practical assessments and assessed written assignments.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.

You will need to successfully complete the level 1 course to a high standard in order to be considered for this level 2 programme.
On successful completion of the Level 2 programme, you can progress to an advanced apprenticeship or to employment as a professional trainee chef/waiter.
The department has a well-equipped kitchen and a modern, fine dining restaurant, The Exe, in which students develop their cookery and food service skills.
The college has dedicated learning resource areas with bookable computers for learners to use during self-study time. There is a well-stocked college library available to support learners.

Q: Will I need to purchase any equipment?
A: Yes, you will need to purchase a kitchen and restaurant uniform, knives, books and materials.

Q: Is there any financial help available?
A: Yes. Qualifying students can apply for support from the College Learner Support Fund which is means tested.
