Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles - Level 2 - Full-time (Mid Devon)
Mid Devon Campus
If you have already completed your IMI Level 1 Diploma in Maintenance and Repair, this study programme is your natural progression to take your skills and knowledge to the next level.
Petroc is an IMI accredited centre. The IMI (Institute for the Motor Industry) sets the highest standard in qualifications, accreditation and membership for those working within the motor industry.
This Level 2 qualification is designed to widen and improve your opportunities as you progress towards a job in the industry. On the programme, you'll develop both your manual skills and your knowledge and understanding of vehicles.
Over the course of a year, you will constantly develop the knowledge and skills you will need to be a skilful light vehicle technician. You'll learn all about the systems associated with vehicle maintenance and repair, including engine mechanics, engine fuel and ignition systems, chassis systems, transmission and electrical systems.
The course is assessed by online tests, written assessments and practical workshop assessments. These are designed to assess the knowledge and skills gained by the candidate, and are carried out throughout the academic year.
You will be required to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, or equivalent. We would expect you to have completed the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.
We will assess your existing knowledge and experience at interview.
When you have completed this programme, you can progress to an apprenticeship programme in the motor industry. Once you are employed, you will be encouraged to complete further qualifications as you need them.
All learners will be required to bring steel toe cap boots and a USB.
For hygiene reasons we suggest you invest in a personal set of appropriate coveralls and steel-toe capped safety boots. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by Petroc.
There may also be the opportunity to participate in a number of trips during the year that may incur an additional cost.
Financial support may be available for any additional cost. Please enquire with our Advice & Guidance Centre on 01884 235200.
