Level 3 Vocational
Course Code:
North Devon Campus
One year

This study programme is designed to further increase your knowledge and therefore your opportunities for employment as a vehicle technician.

This qualification can lead you directly into the motor industry.

Much of the Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair programme is focused on vehicle electrical/electronic systems such as engine management, electronic chassis systems, transmission systems and auxiliary circuits.

This qualification is designed to equip you with the high-level specialist technical knowledge and skills to be able to work on modern light vehicles.

The qualification is assessed using a range of methods appropriate for this level of technical qualification. This will include online testing, written assignments and practical tasks where you'll diagnose complex system faults and make recommendations for repair.
The assessment of this vehicle maintenance VRQ is made up of three components: Practical tasks, on line testing and written assignments. Each unit will have written assignments covering the content of the syllabus. Students will have to complete diagnostic practical tasks, analyse their results and suggest recommendations.
Four D's at GCSE to include English & Maths

All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.

You will need to have successfully completed the level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
This course could lead to employment as a semi-skilled technician in the automotive industry or to a Level 3 apprenticeship standard. We advise further study to progress within this industry. Former students have also progressed to university-level study on successful completion of this course.
This is carried out at our North Devon site in modern workshops.
There may also be the opportunity to participate in a number of trips during the year that may incur an additional cost.
Financial support may be available; please enquire at the Advice & Guidance Centre on 01271 852422.
