Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Principles - Level 2 - Full-time (North Devon)

Level:
Level 2
Course Code:
FTB114
Location:
North Devon Campus
Duration:
One year

This study programme is designed to further the knowledge covered in Level 1 vehicle accident repair. The course covers repair of panels, paint defects, paint rectification and the different material and paint finishes associated with modern vehicle technology. Specialist materials and equipment will also be introduced.

The teaching environment is very similar to a modern vehicle body repair centre.

FAQs

You will learn about the different types of accident repair equipment commonly used in industry, such as spray booths, paint mixing schemes and dent pullers.

Candidates will also raise their skill level in applying primer, top coats and rectifying paint defects at this level. Additionally, you will investigate the fitting methods of structural panels and different techniques of joining materials.

Course units will include:

- Health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
- Support for job roles in the automotive work environment
- Tools and equipment used in vehicle refinishing
- Applying fillers and foundation materials
- Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
- Repairing minor paint defects
- Removing and fitting non-permanently fixed motor vehicle body panels
This course is assessed by both online tests and practical assessments. Each unit will have a number of practical skills tasks, which need to be recorded in an electronic portfolio. Knowledge is assessed by mandatory online tests, which have either a 'pass' or 'fail' mark.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.

We would expect you to have completed a Level 1 accident repair qualification, or have significant prior knowledge and experience in motor vehicle accident repair technology; we will assess your existing knowledge and experience at interview.
Students who successfully complete the qualification may be able to enter the industry or ideally progress as an apprentice where work-based competency can be achieved.
This course is run at the North Devon Campus, which incorporates a fantastic vehicle accident repair workshop environment that replicates a modern vehicle body repair centre.
Equipment includes personal protective equipment (PPE boots/overalls/respirator) and stationary. Details are forwarded to all candidates prior to the start of the course.
Learners can expect to pay an additional £20 to cover materials and a body panel (students are able to take the revitalised body panel home at the end of the year).
For hygiene reasons we suggest you invest in a personal set of appropriate coveralls and steel-toe capped safety boots. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by Petroc.
Any trips may incur an additional cost.
