This course combines the disciplines of both business and events management. It focuses on the skills required to be a dynamic events manager, exploring many supervisory and management functions such as financial planning, event design and legal aspects.

Developing employability skills is a key aspect to this course. You will undertake a variety of live activities which will enhance your employability prospects. As an event management student, you will have the opportunity to plan and manage your own team event as part of professional practice and also participate in the implementation of Oceanfest.

You will study two modules; there will be key learning topics within each module:

1. Introduction to the Events Sector
This module introduces the concept of the events market and explores key trends and developments. It also examines employment opportunities.

The following are the key learning topics within this module:
- Classifying and describing a range of events from festivals to art exhibitions.
- Exploring the importance of the events industry.
- Investigating external and internal factors which affect events.

Examining the structure, formation and skills for the event management team.
This module is assessed through 100% written coursework; you would be expected to visit an event or two.

2. Hospitality for Events
This module examines the role of hospitality within events management; students get an exciting opportunity to plan and implement a group themed event and design hospitality packages.

The following are the key learning topics within this module:
- Hospitality management principles
- Producing hospitality packages for a range of customers
- Exploring food safety at events and other hospitality businesses
This Foundation Degree includes a variety of assessment methods such as presentations, essays, reports and creative projects. There are no more than two assessments per module so these are manageable over the academic year.
Students should have prior attainment of a Level 3 qualification achieving 56 UCAS points but you may also be considered if you have relevant employment experience.
Upon successful completion, students may be able to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Events Management or BA (Hons) Hospitality, Tourism and Events (top-up) at Plymouth University. Please note there is a progression application deadline and places may be subject to availability.
