Psychology is the study of people; how they think, act, react and interact. Psychology is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivation underlying such behaviour. It equips students to apply for a wide range of careers including teaching, research, counselling, human resources and social work.

Students who successfully complete the course can potentially progress to the University of Plymouth to undertake a one-year top up in the BSc (Hons) Psychological Studies or our own University of Plymouth awarded BA (Hons) Human Behavioural Studies here in North Devon.

The programme will allow students the opportunity of studying topics in Psychology in some depth.

- Social, Developmental and Behaviourist Psychology
- Cognitive and Biological Psychology
- Research Methods 1
- Developing Graduate Skills
- Applying Psychology
- Psychology and Crime

Second year modules include:
- Research Methods II
- Individual Differences
- Social Development of Children
- Psychopathology
- Counselling Studies
- Psychology of Health and Illness.

As the course is aimed at both those who have recently finished education and those who may have been out of an education setting for a while, we have a course aimed at developing the skills needed as a graduate, including reflective writing and a work placement. Modules are assessed by a variety of methods which include coursework, examinations, presentations, seminars and research reports.

The course is suitable for those completing post-16 education who will achieve A-levels, AVCE Health and Social Care or any relevant Level 3 course. Applications from mature students with relevant experience may be accepted. While many applicants will have passed academic examinations, we will often take a wider and more flexible view of your skills or potential. GCSE Maths and English at grade 5/4 or above, or a willingness to achieve this standard whilst on the course is required.
