GCSE Maths (Online)

A GCSE in maths can be your key to future success in work and education.

During the course you will study the following:
– Fractions
– Decimals
– Percentages
– Patterns and sequences
– Data analysis
– Measurement
– Probability
– Algebra

This is an online independent study course. All the lessons are on the Google Classroom where you work through lessons, access resources and submit your work each week. The lecturer is available once a week at a designated time via a group Google Hangout for any questions or queries that you may have.
If you do not already have GCSE maths at grade 4/C or above, or a Level 2 qualification, this course will be fully funded.

Course details

Assessments

The course is assessed by final exams in May/June. There are three exams: One non-calculator and two calculator papers. You will be required to attend the College to sit your exams. Regular homework will be set and our online learning platform can be used to consolidate your learning.

Entry Requirements

You will need a grade 3/D at GCSE Maths, or evidence of working at this level. If you have not achieved this qualification, you can sit an initial assessment to check if this is the right course for you or if our progression course would be more suitable.

Progression

Gaining a Grade 4 or above at GCSE Maths can open up a wide range of courses including Access to Higher Education Diplomas and Level 3 qualifications, as well as enabling progression within the workplace.

Facilities and resources

You will also need a scientific calculator and a geometry set. The lecturer will advise on the best calculator to buy.

Q: I wasn’t very good at maths at school. Is this the right course for me?

A: Many adults find that things they found baffling at school are now surprisingly easy!



Q: What can I do if I don’t feel able to complete the GCSE in one year?

A: We will be able to support you on a pathway to achieving the GCSE qualification through our progression routes including functional skills qualifications. You will complete an initial assessment and we will discuss the right pathway for you.
