Hair & Beauty - Level 1 - Full-time (North Devon)

If you are interested in working in the hair and beauty industry, this programme provides the ultimate introduction. It's a great way to experience what a career in either industry could be like, allowing you to gain valuable experience and meet lots of people as you work towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Not just hair and beauty expertise, but employability skills too.
You will study a variety of areas including:
- Health & Safety
- Introduction to the Industry
- Working with Others
- Hair Styling
- Plaiting & Twisting
- Skin & Hand Care
- Apply Basic Make-up
- Nail Art
- Basic Pedicure Treatments
Employability units are also built in to the programme to boost your skills in searching for work and to help with interview techniques. You will complete Functional Skills and/or GCSE qualifications to improve and develop yourself in Maths and English, to enable progression to higher level courses.
Assessment is by commercially competent practice on a range of clients, written and oral tests and assignments. You will be taught by industry professional staff within our modern Lifestyle Centre.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent or above, preferably including Maths and English.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 3 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
Excellent progress and performance on this study programme can lead to entry on to a VRQ Level 2 qualification or an apprenticeship. Most students who complete Level 1, progress on to a higher level course in either hairdressing or beauty therapy to further their skills and qualifications.
You will be taught by industry professional staff within our brand new Lifestyle Centre.
You need to bring your GCSE results, a pen and notepad.
You will be required to purchase a uniform (approx. £50) and a kit (approx. £150).

Q: Will I have to wear a uniform?
A: On your first day, you will come in your own clothes, you will then be expected to wear all black until your uniform arrives. Once you have your uniform, you will be expected to wear this at all times except in GCSE or Functional Skills.
