There are nearly three million people currently living with diabetes in the UK, and experts predict that this number will reach five million within the next 12 years.
As the prevalence of diabetes continues to increase, it is crucial that the people affected become fully aware of how they can adapt their lifestyles to monitor and
manage the condition effectively. By completing this course, you will not only gain a nationally recognised qualification, but will also improve your understanding of the different forms, causes and risk factors of diabetes, becoming aware of the best way to manage, monitor and control it.

Unit 1 - Understand diabetes
In this unit you will explore the function of glucose and insulin in the blood, different forms and causes of diabetes and the risk factors associated with each type.

Unit 2 - Prevention and early intervention for type 2 diabetes
Within this unit you will look at the prevention and early intervention of type 2 diabetes, and how it can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle changes.

Unit 3 - Understand the initial care of diabetes
In this unit you will explore how the condition can be managed and monitored, as well as the impact a diagnosis of diabetes can have on an individual.

Unit 4 - Understand the treatment and management of diabetes
This unit will help you gain an understanding of the on-going care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how to prevent and detect complications for people with diabetes.
Each unit is assessed though short answer questions. Assessments are completed online via our online assessment platform or you can request paper-based assessments that you will need to post back to us.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. This is a knowledge based qualification and requires a good level of literacy, reading and writing.

Learners must be over 19 and resident in the UK or EU country for at least 3 years.
You can enrol onto other Level 2 subject specific qualifications within the health and social care sector or progress onto higher level courses.
You will receive a study pack which contains your learning resources, study plan, study guide and how to access the online assessment platform. If you want to complete paper-based assessment you will have the option to request these when you enrol.

This course is also available fully online - learning materials and assessments
This is a distance / home study course, so you can study at your own pace and at a time to suit you. A subject specialist tutor will be allocated to you and you can email them should you have any questions relating to your course.
