Dementia is a highly topical subject, and a major social challenge. This nationally accredited qualification is designed to give you an excellent grounding in Dementia. Through the 7 units you will cover issues including communication, medication and activities for people with Dementia.

Unit 1 - Dementia Awareness
This unit explains what dementia is, the most common types of dementia and the causes associated with them. You also look at how other people can have an impact on an individual with dementia.

Unit 2 - The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
In this unit you will look at the knowledge and understanding required to enable an individual with dementia to experience well-being. The role of carers is also covered.

Unit 3 - Understand factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
From this unit you will gain awareness of the different communication needs and abilities of individuals with dementia in order to encourage positive interaction.

Unit 4 - Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
In this unit you will be introduced to equality, diversion and inclusion which are all important when practicing the person-centred care approach.

Unit 5 - Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia
This unit will help you understand the medication available to and appropriate for individuals with dementia, and explores specific needs that some individuals may have when receiving medication.

Unit 6 Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
In this unit you will look at the different behaviours of individuals with dementia and how to respond to certain types of behaviour.

Unit 7 - Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
This unit explores how engaging in social activities to enhance mental, physical and social well-being can benefit individuals with dementia.
Each unit is assessed though short answer questions. Assessments are completed online via our online platform or you can request paper-based assessments that you will need to post back to us.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. This is a knowledge based qualification and requires a good level of literacy, reading and writing.

Learners must be over 19 and resident in the UK or EU country for at least 3 years.
You can enrol onto other Level 2 subject specific qualifications within the health and social care sector or progress onto higher level courses.
You will receive a study pack which contains your learning resources, study plan, study guide and how to access the online assessment platform. If you want to complete paper-based assessment you will have the option to request these when you enrol.

This course is also available fully online - learning materials and assessments
This is a distance / home study course, so you can study at your own pace and at a time to suit you. A subject specialist tutor will be allocated to you and you can email them should you have any questions relating to your course.

It is important that you can work independently and be dedicated to set time aside each week for your studies, we recommend that you allow a minimum of 4 to 6 hours a week. Remember that your study time counts towards your CPD - Continuing Professional Development.

There is no cost for this qualification. However, if you do not complete your course inside the agreed timescale without a valid reason there will be a charge of £100.
