FAQs

In the first year, you will explore changes in French society in families, work and education, as well as French culture including music, the media and traditions to help refine your French communication skills. As part of your studies, you will read a famous French text and watch French directed films like `Les Choristes' and `Chocolat'.

In the second year, you will cover thought-provoking topics like the positive impact of immigration and the rise of the Front Nationale party. You will also explore the effect of occupation in World War II, including Vichy France and The Resistance and study more French films and literature too. There will be two final written exams including translation work and oral exams with a presentation of your choice and discussions on the set themes.

The course is varied, lively and enjoyable. There are opportunities for debates and discussions on topical issues which are in the news and you will enhance your existing knowledge of both the language and the countries where French is spoken. The course helps you to communicate with young people from other countries, it broadens your general knowledge and will improve your understanding of life and people. Studying French will also give you a better perception of your own language and its intricacies in terms of grammar and translation skills. There may be the chance to go on a trip perhaps to France or to a student conference.
