Over two years, the course looks at four main areas. The first two deal with the nature of UK governance, the construction of the state, and the interaction between these institutions and the political traditions of Britain. As you progress through the course you can look forward to relating this knowledge to other political systems around the world including the United States. Finally, you will be given the opportunity to study one of the great influential '...isms' of politics such as Nationalism or Anarchism.

This course is aimed at anyone who is looking to work in and/or study governance, political systems and the ideas that drive our world. It is also useful to people studying subjects in related disciplines. For example, history and geography all require understanding of political ideas and this subject will provide it. Likewise, it is easier to grasp economic concepts when you understand the political ideas/actions that impact them.
Assessment is examination based. You will have three exams on the UK, the USA and a political concept such as Nationalism.

Whilst studying this course, you can expect regular assessment (based on the above) to help prepare you. All assessments come with helpful feedback from supportive staff whose goal is to help you achieve your potential.
To be accepted onto a two-year Level 3 programme, all entrants must hold at least a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and a grade 4 in GCSE English, as well as at least three other GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above. Certain subjects require a minimum of GCSE grade 6.

You will need to meet the college's A-level study programme requirements. As well as this, you will need to be open-minded about the nature of the world, prepared to work hard and willing to form opinions.
