This qualification provides learners with the in-depth understanding, knowledge and skills when working with children and young people in schools, college, universities or in the community. It covers all aspects specialist support whether in a classroom but also increasingly in more varied settings in the community.

This engaging and varied study programme includes topics such as safeguarding, supporting positive behaviour and children and young people's speech, language and communication.

The course will give you the opportunity to participate in learning that is relevant to you. You will develop a range of skills and techniques, as well as personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in an educational environment. Some aspects of the course will be delivered electronically to support your development of digital literacy skills.

You will spend one day per week in college and work up to three days per week in a placement setting to enhance your practical abilities in the working environment.
A Petroc assessor will visit intermittently in order to plan, observe and assess progress in placement, and to check competence within the practice based units. The course tutor will assess knowledge work from the CACHE element of the programme through assignments.
All entrants must hold GCSE English Language at grade 4/5 or above and preferably GCSE Maths at grade 4/5 or above, amongst the 5 GCSEs at grade 4/5 required for entry.

Learners with a full Level 2 vocational qualification in a children's educational setting or successful completion of the Level 2 Teaching Assistants qualification. Adults must be employed within an educational setting, due to the specialist nature of the course.

You will need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before you start the course.
Completing this programme will employment as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Special Needs Assistant.
Some students choose to continue their studies at university to study teaching and learning for example a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning.
DBS check, pen, paper and Lever arch file with dividers and poly pockets.

You will also benefit from purchasing a memory stick to save work.
There will be additional costs for a DBS check.
