This course reflects the skills and knowledge required of people working in a Business Administration role. A work placement with an employer is an integral part to this course.
There will be opportunities for successful candidates to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship, a full time Level 3 course or gain full-time employment.
A post-16 qualification designed for those wishing to gain a recognised qualification proving knowledge and competence, with a work placement being an integral part of the course.
This course is perfect for young people who are looking to gain experience in employment combined with college based study.
Upon successful completion of this course you will obtain a:
- BTEC Level 2 Technical Certificate in Business Administration
- ICT Functional Skills Level 1
This course includes:

- Combined qualification containing both knowledge and competence units
- The option to retake Maths and English GCSE exams
Modules covered in the Business Administration element of the course include:
- Understanding administrative services
- Providing administrative services
- Using business technology to process and communicate information
- ?Planning, organising and supporting business events
You will also be required to organise an event during the year for one of the compulsory units.
Upon successful completion of your work placement you will be provided with an employer reference to support your progression.
Assessments take a variety of methods with support from your tutor and assessor. You will be required to provide evidence of occupational competence on all competence (practical) units.
All units will be assessed using the verified model and will be graded using a scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass and Unclassified. All units in the qualification contribute to the overall qualification grade.
There is one externally assessed unit and three internally assessed units.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent or above, preferably including Maths and English.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 3 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
Achieving this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in business administration, such as:
- business administrator
- administrative assistant
- office administrator
When studied as part of a full study programme, this qualification also gives learners a sound basis to progress further in a business administrative role, and to a Level 3 qualification such as a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business, a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in a Tech Level qualification.
On your first day we suggest that you bring some money for printing credit, lunch and parking, a USB memory stick, notepaper, pens and a lever arch folder.
