Transport Maintenance (Motor Vehicle) - Level 1 - Full-time (Mid Devon)
Mid Devon Campus
These days, there is a lot more to car maintenance than being good with a spanner.
Modern cars are complex and computerised, so there's a lot to learn. But if you want to work on vehicles for a living, it all starts here.
We are an IMI (Institute for the Motor Industry) approved centre. IMI set the highest standards for the industry with their qualifications, accreditations and membership.
This study programme is an ideal combination of practical lessons, taught in our excellent, fully-equipped workshops, and the theory behind the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles.
You will explore the fundamentals of the vehicle's main systems engines, fuel systems and chassis systems. We will also encourage you to find work placements, as they will help you develop your skills faster and help you understand how the business really works.
Every year, at IMI approved centres such as Petroc, more than 100,000 individuals are awarded certification for one of 250 different industry qualifications. Candidates range from young apprentices to industry veterans looking to gain competency in a changing technological landscape. IMI’s awarding organisation offers a full range of technical and operational motor industry specialisms, from body repair, motorsport and land-based to automotive management, including:
- Competence qualifications
- Knowledge qualifications
- Life skills
- Pre-16 qualifications
All at the highest standard required for an ever changing Motor Vehicle landscape.
The course is assessed mainly by practical tasks, with some written work. Students will also be required to complete some online tests.
Practical assessments will be carried out in the workshop. The assessments in the workshop will be graded as 'competent' or 'not competent'. Students who do not pass first time will be given the opportunity to retake the assessment after guidance and further training.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent or above, preferably including Maths and English.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 3 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
This qualification is a sound preparation for more vocational training.
You could continue to other related qualifications or apprenticeships at Level 2, such as Vehicle Fitting, Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Vehicle Body and Paint Operations, Roadside Assistance and Recovery, Vehicle Parts Operations and Vehicle Sales.
You will be required to bring steel toe cap boots and a USB stick.
