Former Petroc fitness student launches new ‘mermaiding’ business

As a response to the new phenomenon of Mermaiding, Charlotte Bousted, who studied at Petroc last year with the fitness department qualifying as a Personal Trainer and Sports Therapist, has set up a company called Mermaids UK. The mermaid venture specialises in training courses and specialist sales of tails for children and adults.

Teresa Davies and Jane Sharkey, Programme Managers in the Fitness section at Petroc, managed to meet up with Charlotte at Leisure Industry week (LIW), where Charlotte had taken on a stand whilst also running demonstrations in the LIW pool.

"It was great to see Charlotte using all her business and personal skills which she has picked up from both her studies at Petroc and working with her mother; local business woman, Lisa Bousted," said Teresa.

Jane went on to add: "Charlotte has been amazing, as she has been responsible for the whole process from product design, which included liaising with suppliers in China, to demonstrating her product nationally to business people within the leisure industry."

Jane got the chance to get in the water and try out the tail in the pool: "It was surprising how comfortable the tail was and how quickly you got used to wearing it, although I definitely need more practice in the water to swim like a mermaid!"
