Petroc launches 10 new courses for September 2017

Petroc is introducing 10 exciting new courses for September 2017, to give you even more skills to shape your future.

Due to popular demand from the local community, three new A-level subjects and three BTEC courses have been added to what’s on offer at the Petroc North Devon Campus, giving you the chance to try something completely different. There's also another four new courses being offered at our Mid Devon Campus, with BTEC Diplomas in Engineering and Sport and Exercise Science, as well as Children's Care, Learning and Development. These study programmes are all available to be applied for right now, ready for you to begin studying in September alongside other subjects in our extensive course offering.

North Devon Campus

Computer Science A Level

Computing is transforming the way the world works. You can learn the principles and concepts of computer science including abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation, as well as programming and coding.

Drama & Theatre A Level

This course offers an excellent balance between practical theatre making and the theoretical understanding of drama and theatre. You will study three performance texts representing a range of social, historical and cultural contexts.

Politics A Level

Explore the relationships between governments, people and ideas. This subject links well with history, law, sociology and economics, because the learning in one supports achievement in the other.

Applied Science Level 2

If you’re thinking of a career in science, this stimulating and practical course will give you the skills in all aspects of laboratory science. The programme covers chemistry, biology and physics and will equip you with the skills to work in the industry.

Creative Digital Media Level 2 

This is an exciting full-time course in Media which is equivalent to 3 GCSEs upon completion. It is an opportunity for you to understand more about the scope of creative digital media production and develop knowledge about the creative media industries.

Creative Digital Media Level 3 

This full-time course is equivalent to three A-levels at the end of the second year. Learn more about the scope of creative digital media production in this practical and theoretical course, where you will produce a portfolio and take written exams.

 

Mid Devon Campus

BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering

This study programme will give you a broad understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering that is ideal preparation for higher education or employment as an apprentice or engineering technician. The qualification blends classroom teaching and practical work using specialised engineering equipment.

BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development

This course covers all aspect of children’s care with progression leading to ‘assistant practitioner status’. The course covers all aspects of child development, preparing and maintaining environment for child care as well as supporting children’s play and learning.

BTEC Foundation Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science

If you have a passion for sport and exercise then this is the course for you. This exciting new course combines sport, fitness and science in one and is taught within our modern gym facilities at the Mid Devon Campus.

Architecture, Surveying & The Built Environment BTEC Diploma-Extended Diploma

The course includes live design case studies to give you practical experience of various career paths and will prepare you for higher level study in the field of construction.
