Art students light up Tiverton with life-sized lantern

As part of their 3D unit on their course, Level 2 art and design students from Petroc’s Mid Devon Campus had a live brief to produce a lantern for the Winterfest, organised by the Town Business Forum in Tiverton.

Lots of local schools took part in the procession on 26 November, with crowds reaching over 5000.

The students took just over three weeks to design a life-sized Pegasus and produced the light lantern from willow and tissue paper. The learners then paraded the large scale lantern through the crowds on Saturday. Lexie Ball, a learner on the course, said she felt very proud of the exciting positive comments and cheers from the crowd and it gave her great confidence.

The crowning moment came as the students were awarded a trophy for Pegasus from the Business Forum.
