Petroc ‘Team 9’ finalists in Prince’s Trust ‘Community Impact Award’

Petroc is proud of the success achieved by its Prince’s Trust teams at the ‘Celebrate Success’ Awards ceremony in November 2016.

Petroc Mid Devon’s Team 9 were runners up (out of 3,000 students working on 100 community projects in the South West) for a project which saw them fundraise £1,200 and then apply their funds and efforts to create a sensory garden for a local childcare nursery.

Working closely with partners - Bradfords and Tesco Local - the students painstakingly converted the previously unusable area into a well-equipped garden to stimulate and enthral young children. The site required work such as flood-proofing, the creation of a willow archway, painting sheds and the installation of sound and story boards and a mud kitchen!

The garden no longer floods and the children are delighted.

Petroc students are no strangers to the taste of success in Prince’s Trust awards, enjoying their third appearance at the awards in four years.

A special mention should go to Petroc alumnus, Wendy Douglas, who was placed in the top three of the Breakthrough Awards. Well done Wendy!
