We have two programmes for learners leaving schools.

Employment Preparation – 2 years (previously Bridging Programme)

This programme is  a one or two year programme aimed at young people with learning needs who wish to extend their skills towards employment and independence in a supportive, friendly environment.

Learners will develop their personal and interpersonal skills alongside their confidence and self esteem.

Each individual young person has their own Individual Learning Plan and choose from a wide range of vocational areas or Social Enterprise including motor vehicles, hairdressing, woodwork, catering, business and conservation skills amongst others.

Alongside this learners will study functional skills Maths and English or GCSEs.

Work experience and residential are essential to the Preparation for Work programme.

Learners who complete the two years on this programme can progress to the following:

• Project Life Community

• Project Life Vocational

• Supported Internship

• Project Search

Life Preparation

Life Preparation is for young people who have a learning disability and/or complex needs. The course is one or two years and is for learners working from pre entry to entry level 2.

Learners are taught in small groups with high levels of support. Life Preparation has its own base rooms which provide learners with a safe environment at all times within the mainstream college setting.

Learners on Life Preparation will follow an individual learning plan which includes either an internal or external certificated programme of study alongside maths and English at the appropriate level. Learners also benefit from enrichment and tutorial and real life experience working in Petroc’s Social Enterprises. Learning is focused on the skills needed on leaving Petroc including, confidence, self esteem and life skills.

The course is enriched by a variety of activities, workshops, educational visit and a residential trip. All students will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement. Learners are encouraged to integrate with mainstream students through sessions such as PE and when using Petroc facilities such as the food hall and workshops.
