Advanced Career Skills
This course is primarily a progression route for learners who have completed the Career Skills course. This programme will stretch you academically in a supportive and friendly environment; we aim to give you the skills you need to progress to further Level 2 study, Level 3 or employment.
Your programme of study will include a Level 2 Work Skills Certificate which encompasses multiple units aimed at developing your skills and preparing you for progression, you will gain a GCSE in Citizenship which focuses on life in the UK, politics, criminal law and international relations. These subjects are taught throughout the year and your programme is devised in such a way that it becomes personalised to your needs.
We aim to help you find your feet in education and develop your academic skills as well as your personal skills to enable to you progress to your own personalised goals.
You will enrol on Maths and English relating to your qualifications on entry.
There will be a GCSE exam in June and an interview or presentation assessment for the Level 2 qualification.
You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), preferably including Maths and English. If you do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English, you’ll continue studying these subjects alongside your chosen course(s). At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills (where applicable) before progressing on to your next course.
You will need a willingness to learn, and acknowledge your skills and areas for development.
Upon completion, you could progress into employment or onto a Level 3 course.
Every full-time student at Petroc will have their own Study Programme which will include:
– Your academic or vocational qualification.
– Maths and English Language development – if you have not achieved GCSE grade 4 in either of these subjects.
– Work Experience – hours will vary depending on your qualification and course level.
– Tutor Support – to support your personal, academic and professional development.
– Sustainability – helping you to identify how you can improve the sustainability of your future employment sectors.
– Personal Development Awards – developing six key areas of personal and employability behaviours to prepare you for the working world.
