An Introduction to Mechatronics

This short course is designed to upskill and introduce control principle in mechatronics. It will help you appreciate the control methods being used, and maintain parts effectively around them. It is ideal for maintenance technicians working on large or small production lines who want an introduction to mechatronics and programmable logic controllers.

The course is delivered over 10 weeks and covers the following topics:

– Introduction into mechatronics, design theory and cost implications.
– Electro-mechanical, similarity of elements.
– Electrical theory and testing, use of a range of test equipment.
– Sensor technologies.
– Actuator technologies.
– Introduction to the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
– Use of PLC to fault find.

Progression

This is an introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers and can be used to help support maintainance positions.

Facilities and resources

The course is carried out in a well resourced workshop where bottling plants, PLC training boards and actuator simulators will all be used.
