Award In First Aid At Work (Requalification)

This qualification is aimed at learners who need to refresh their Level 3 First Aid at Work.

It covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident, and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis.

Topics covered include:
– The roles and responsibilities of the first aider
– How to assess an incident
– Recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness
– CPR skills
– Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
– Assisting a casualty suffering from major injury and illness

This is a two-day course. The first date is 7 February 2022, and the second date is 14 February 2022.

Assessments

This course is assessed via practical observation and written questioning, which are graded as pass or fail.

Entry Requirements

You are required to be 16 years of age or above. It is also advised that you have a minimum of Level 1 in English and Maths or equivalent. You should also have completed the original Award in First Aid at Work.

Progression

This is the highest level of First Aid offered at Petroc. However, you may wish to undertake an alternative health and safety qualification.

Facilities and resources

This course is delivered at Petroc’s North Devon campus, but we can deliver this to groups in your workplace.

A: No, there are no formal dress requirements for this course although you may wish to wear comfortable clothes for the practical exercises.
