Certificate in Common Health Care Conditions
In the UK today there are a large number of people living with a common health condition. These conditions have varying effects upon individuals, but they all require continual management to minimise the effect they have on an individual’s day to day life. This course you will not only give you an awareness of the signs, symptoms and treatments available for a variety of common health conditions, but you will also learn how to care for individuals and enable them to manage, monitor and control their condition.
Units covered in this programme include:
– Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions.
The aim of this unit is to provide you with an understanding of monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions, including the observation, recording and reporting of these. It will also help you to gain knowledge of the responses needed when there are changes to an individual’s condition.
– Understand Cardiovascular Disease
The aim of this unit is to give you an understanding of the cardiovascular system and different forms of cardiovascular disease, including their signs, symptoms, causes and risk factors. It will also help you gain knowledge of the effects on an individual’s daily life and the treatment and management options available.
– Stroke Awareness
The aim of this unit is to provide you with an understanding of the different types of stroke, their signs, symptoms and effect on the individual. It will help you to gain knowledge of the response required in the event of an emergency, how to manage a stroke and the support that is available following a stroke.
– Arthritis Awareness
The aim of this unit is to develop your understanding of the different types of arthritis, their causes, signs and symptoms. The module also touches upon how to best treat the condition in order to allow those affected the ability to enjoy their day-to-day life.
– Understand Physical Disability
This unit covers how to provide support to individuals with physical disabilities, help them to effectively manage their disability and their ability to maintain their independence.
– Parkinson’s Disease Awareness
The aim of this unit is to provide you with an understanding of Parkinson’s disease and its underlying causes, the signs and symptoms of the condition and its impact. It will also help you gain an understanding of treatment options, support services and strategies for managing the condition.
Each unit is assessed through short answer questions of at least one paragraph. Assessments are completed online via our online assessment platform or you can request paper-based assessments that you will need to post back to us.
You must be over 19 and have been resident in the UK for at least three years.
Aged 19 – 23 must hold a full Level 2 qualification.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. This is a knowledge-based qualification and therefore a good level of literacy, reading and writing is essential.
You can enrol onto other Level 2 subject specific qualifications or progress onto higher level courses.

For learners wishing to study fully online, full details on how to access the platform will be emailed after your induction call.
For those requesting workbooks with online assessments, your books will be posted to you after your induction call. Once you have received these you will be emailed full details to access the platform.
If you want to complete the paper-based assessments you will have the option to request these when you enrol.
Q: How long will this course take to complete?
A: This is a distance/home study course, so you can study at your own pace and at a time to suit you within a 16 week period. A subject specialist tutor will be allocated to you and you can email them should you have any questions relating to your course. It is important that you can work independently and be dedicated to set time aside each week for your studies, we recommend that you allow a minimum of 8 to 10 hours a week. Remember that your study time counts towards your CPD – Continuing Professional Development.
Q: How much does this course cost?
A: There is no cost for this qualification. However, if you do not complete your course inside the agreed timescale without a valid reason there will be a charge of £125.
