Certificate in the Care & Management of Diabetes
There are more than four million people currently living with diabetes in the UK, and experts predict that this number will reach six million within the next 12 years. As the prevalence of diabetes continues to increase, it is crucial that the people affected become fully aware of how they can adapt their lifestyles to monitor and manage the condition effectively.
By completing this course, you will not only gain a nationally recognised qualification, but will also improve your understanding of the different forms, causes and risk factors of diabetes, becoming aware of the best way to manage, monitor and control it.
Units covered in this programme include:
– Understand diabetes
Within this unit you will explore the varying functions of glucose and insulin in the blood, the different forms and causes of diabetes, as well as the risk factors associated with each type.
– Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
Here you will study and examine the prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes, paying attention to how the condition can be delayed, or even prevented, through healthy lifestyle changes.
– Understand the initial care of diabetes
This unit explores how the condition can be managed and monitored. As well as this, you will consider the mental and physical impact that diabetes diagnosis can have on an individual.
– Understand treatment and management of diabetes
Within this unit you will develop an understanding of the ongoing care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how best to prevent and detect complications in people with diabetes.
Each unit is assessed through short answer questions of at least one paragraph. Assessments are completed online via our online assessment platform or you can request paper-based assessments that you will need to post back to us.
You must be over 19 and have been resident in the UK for at least three years.
Aged 19 – 23 must hold a full Level 2 qualification.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. This is a knowledge-based qualification and therefore a good level of literacy, reading and writing is essential.
