This study programme is a great starting point for a fabulous career within the industry. It is a great way to experience what a career in the industry could mean for you, allowing you to gain valuable experience and meet lots of people as you work towards a nationally-recognised qualification.

Units covered in this programme include:
– Health and safety
– Client care and communication
– Client consultation
– Shampoo and conditioning the hair and scalp
– Styling, setting & dressing women’s hair

Towards the end of the year, you will be introduced to basic cutting and colouring skills/units, but you will not study this area fully until you begin year two of the course.

Throughout the qualification you will be working with clients within our modern salons and assessed, incorporating industry trends and the development of your employability skills.

Assessments

Assessments are in the form of practical observations, assignments, written and oral exams.

Entry Requirements

You will need a sound understanding of maths and English to cope with the demands of the theory aspect of this Level 2 course. A good understanding of IT is also of benefit.

A creative flair and imagination will be needed in order to succeed on this course.

Progression

To further your hairdressing skills and knowledge you can continue in to Year 2 (further fees will be attached) and study all of the units learned in Year 1, but much more in-depth. You will also study cutting and colouring to industry standards. Each of the units will have exams attached and at the end of your two years, you will have the basic skills and knowledge to work as a 1st Year improver in a salon or gain relevant insurance to work as a Freelance Stylist. Many students progress on to the Level 3 programme, for a further year, to enhance their skill level and knowledge as well as their confidence.
