The CKR1 assessment course tests gas safety competence to install, commission, exchange, disconnect, service, repair and breakdown for domestic cooking appliances.

Assessors provide guidance, support and assistance in a realistic environment to build confidence and competence to work safely in the gas industry.

Units covered in this programme include:
– Identification of unsafe conditions diagnosing gas safety faults.
– Diagnosis of gas safety faults.
– Suitable and unsuitable appliance room/space locations.
– Clearances – proximity of combustible materials.
– Fitting cooking appliances in dwellings in multi-occupancy buildings.
– Flexible & pliable connections used for built in appliances.

Course details


Assessment will be through a practical and written task to ascertain your knowledge and understanding. Once the training and assessments have been successfully completed, you will receive a certificate from the certification body. The certificate is proof of competence.


This course will enable you to expand your remit of work to include Domestic Cooking Appliances.

Facilities and resources

Training and assessment takes place in our fully equipped Gas Training Workshop.

A: Pay and display parking is available in the car park adjacent to the workshop. There is a charge of £1.20 for the full day.
