Diploma in Theatrical and Special Effects Make-up
The art of creative make-up for the media industry is an endlessly fascinating field of study. This Media Make-up study programme covers all the practical application of makeup for fashion, SFX, film, television and advertising.
You will be introduced to all aspects of media make-up, including:
– Historical hair and makeup
– Full body art
– Catwalk make-up
– Avant grade make-up
– Bridal make-up
– Photographic make-up
– Use of prosthetics and bald caps for character creation
You will learn about creative hair design and the use of hair additions and wigs. In addition, you will look at working in all areas of the industry, blogging, promotion, health and safety, product use and the evolution of cosmetics.
You will be assessed through an external 2 hour 40 minute examination and by externally moderated practicals covering the different types of media makeup. You will be taught by industry professional staff within our modern commercial makeup room.
Throughout the qualification, we will also be working on the development of your skills for employment and will be expected to take part in work experience linked to the range of makeup covered. If you need to retake your maths and English you will need to continue with these classes.
To be accepted onto a Level 3 programme, you must hold at least four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including GCSE Maths and English language.
To apply for this study programme you must have already completed a full Level 2 in Media Make-up Artistry.
Direct entry may be considered for mature students with an appropriate level of qualification or vocational qualifications in linked areas.
Following successful completion of the course, you will be invited to continue your studies with us. Should you wish to take an alternative route you can study further and specialise in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy, or apply to attend university, with the relevant entry grades. Equally, you are now ready to work within the industry as an Assistant to the Senior Make-up Artist.
