Electric Vehicle – Skills Bootcamp

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer. 

The Electric Vehicle Skills Bootcamp will provide you with the opportunity to expand your knowledge of this specific part of the motor vehicle sector. It will provide you with awareness of working with electric vehicles and progress through to working safely when carrying out repairs. This will allow you to progress to work on electric vehicles in your own garage or as a self-employed technician.

Level 1 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness: This part of the course is designed as an introduction to the knowledge of safe working practices, the dangers surrounding and the precautions required to avoid potential injury when near electric/hybrid vehicles.

Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities: This part of the course is designed to prepare you to encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.

Level 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement: Once you have gained the knowledge and skills to work safely around the high-energy system during routine maintenance you will progress to gaining the knowledge to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage systems.

Preparation for interview/interview skills: You will gain an understanding of the questions you may be asked during an interview and gain an insight into the responses employers are seeking.

The delivery schedule is as below:

The course will run from Monday 4 November and will run for two afternoon sessions each week.
Mondays: 5.30-8.30pm remotely delivered online (4 November will be in-person)
Thursdays: 5.00-8.00pm practical session at Petroc’s North Devon Campus

There will be no course delivery during half term or the Christmas break.

Course details

Assessments

You will progress through the three levels with a practical and online exam at the end of Level 1 and Level 2. The Level 3 qualification has knowledge assessed either by questions and answers, professional discussion, project, presentation or written assignment.

Entry Requirements

You should already have gained a certification at Level 2 or higher in an automotive-related qualification as a minimum entry onto this Skills Bootcamp.

Progression

Progression will include a job interview with a local employer or the skills and knowledge gained will improve your responsibilities and/or prospects within your current role.
