First steps in British Sign Language is the perfect start to learning sign language basics for fun, or to progress to a certificated programme.

During the course, you will learn the following:
– Addressing yourself and greetings
– Finger spelling and numbers
– Food and drink
– Where you live, giving directions
– Travel and weather
– Basic conversations

The course runs for 6 weeks, either every Monday or every Tuesday:

Cohort 1: Starts Monday 3 June, from 15:30 to 16:45
Cohort 2: Starts Tuesday 4 June from 17:00 to 18:15

There are no formal assessments for this course.

Entry Requirements

For all learners joining Entry Level Study Programmes, there are no formal entry requirements, however you will have a one-to-one interview to discuss your personal learning needs. You will also be required to study English and Maths at an appropriate level to suit your ability.

Progression

Upon completion of this course you can progress onto certificated British Sign Language qualifications.

The course will be held in the Liberty Centre at Petroc’s North Devon Campus in Barnstaple.

A: Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. Sign Language is used mainly by people who are deaf or have hearing impairments.

A: This is a beginner course that requires no previous experience.
