Functional Skills English (Online)

This course is designed for anyone who wants to improve their English skills for either the workplace or further study.

You will cover a variety of topics designed to help you improve your understanding of different texts and improve your spelling, punctuation and grammar to enable you to write confidently and effectively in a range of situations such as emails, letters and reports. You will also work on communication skills which are a vital transferable skill for the workplace.

This is an online independent study course. All the lessons are on Goggle Classroom where you work through the lessons. access resources and submit your work each week. The lecturer is available once a week at a designated time via a group Google Hangout for any questions or queries that you may have.

N.B. Fees will apply if you have already achieved a grade A-C or 9-4.

Assessments

You will sit reading and writing exams as well as a speaking, listening and communication assessment. You will need to sit the exams at our college site.

Entry Requirements

You will need a Level 1 English qualification or evidence of working at this level. If you have not achieved this you can sit an initial assessment to check if this is the right course for you.

Progression

Functional skills English Level 2 is a key qualification for employment, further and higher education. Gaining this qualification can open up a wide range of courses including access to Higher Educations Diplomas and Level 3 qualifications, as well as enabling progression within the workplace.

Q: Is there any funding available to help me pay for my course?

A: Many of our courses are free to attend (subject to eligibility). We will carry out a fee assessment when you enrol to establish if you meet the criteria.



Q. I have not studied for a while, what support will be available?

A. As well as support from your lecturer, you will also have access to our Adult Success Coach team. They can support you through the course by helping you to break down any barriers to learning and completing the course.
