Gcse English Fast Track Adult Provision
A GCSE in English can be your key to future success in work and education. During the course you will read and analyse a number of written and spoken, fiction and non-fiction texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st century, including letters, blogs and articles.
You will develop your skills by writing a variety of texts for different audiences and purposes as well as improving your spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The course is assessed by two final exams in November. In Paper 1 you will analyse a fiction text and do a piece of creative writing. In Paper 2 you will compare non-fiction texts from different centuries and do a piece of writing to express an opinion. There is no coursework, however, there will be regular homework.
A grade of Level 3/D in English is required to undertake this course.
Completion of this course will open up a wide range of further studies or employment opportunities.
Facilities and resources
Learning resources will be supplied. Access to library and other online learning aids will be available.
Q: I wasn’t very good at English at school. Is this the right course for me?
A: Many adults find that things they struggled with at school are now surprisingly easy! However, the fast track course is delivered over 10 weeks so there is a lot to cover and you might find this challenging. This course is best suited to applicants who have a basic knowledge of GCSE English and we do have other courses over a longer period that might be a better option.
Q: What can I do if I don’t feel able to complete the GCSE in 10 weeks ?
A: We have a September start course over 30 weeks with the exams in June. We also offer an Improve Your English class, which allows you to take two years to achieve the GCSE. In the first year you would work towards a Functional Skill at Level 1 and improve your English skills and confidence in preparation for completing GCSE in the following year.
