Hair & Beauty
If you are interested in working in the hair and beauty industry, this programme provides the ultimate introduction. It’s a great way to experience what a career in either industry could be like, allowing you to gain valuable experience and meet lots of people as you work towards a nationally-recognised qualification.
You will study a variety of areas including:
– Health and safety
– Introduction to the industry
– Working with others
– Hair styling
– Nail art
Employability units are also built into the programme to boost your skills in searching for work and to help with interview techniques. You will complete Functional Skills and/or GCSE qualifications to improve and develop yourself in Maths and English, to enable progression to higher-level courses.
Assessment is by commercially competent practice on a range of clients, written and oral tests and assignments. You will be taught by industry professional staff within our modern Lifestyle Centre.
You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), preferably including Maths and English. If you do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English, you’ll continue studying these subjects alongside your chosen course(s). At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills (where applicable) before progressing on to your next course.
Excellent progress and performance on this study programme can lead to entry on to a Technical Level 2 qualification or an apprenticeship. Most students who complete Level 1 progress on to a higher-level course in either hairdressing or beauty therapy, to further their skills and qualifications.
Facilities and resources
You will be taught by industry professional staff within our Hair and Beauty Salons.
