The HNC in Sports Coaching is a brand-new qualification that will give you the opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the principles in sports through a mixture of academic and practical sessions. It will enable you to put the knowledge learnt in an academic environment into a practical setting.

This qualification is a Higher Technical Qualification which means it has been developed in partnership with a range of sports, coaching and fitness organisations including CIMPSA, Core Coach Foundation, Gloucestershire Hockey Association, British Aikido Board, Progressive Martial Arts, Sport Coach UK, Careers in Sport, Sport and Beyond, University of Surrey, Leeds Beckett, University of Gloucestershire, AoC Sport, North Yorkshire Outdoor Learning Service, Reading FC and Oxford Brookes

Assessments

The method of assessment varies between modules reflecting the need to develop a range of different knowledge, understanding and skills. Typically, you will encounter practical, essay and case study questions, fieldwork, group reports, discussion and presentations.

Entry Requirements

You should have prior attainment of a Level 3 qualification (such as A Levels, T Levels or BTEC), however, we welcome students over the age of 21 with no paper qualifications who can demonstrate that they have the potential to succeed on the programme – usually having sports, coaching or fitness related work experience and transferable skills. 48 UCAS points will be required.

Progression

This course provides a broad foundation for higher-level studies which enables progression onto further study or a career. On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the second year of the FdSc Sport, Coaching, Health and Fitness at the University Centre at Petroc or apply for Sports and Sport Science related courses at other universities, for example: BA (Hons) Sport & Fitness Studies, BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science, BSc (Hons) Sports Studies, BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching, BA Sport Development with Coaching and BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching and Performance.
