HTR1 – Gas Fires & Wall Heaters (Initial Assessment)

This assessment is for new applicants or gas engineers with a certificate that expired more than 12 months ago.

Assessors provide guidance, support and assistance in a realistic environment to build confidence and competence to work safely in the gas industry.

HRT1 initial assessment will include the following appliances:
– Domestic open, balanced fan assisted flued gas fires
– Wall heaters
– Convector heaters
– Stoves and flueless gas fires with and without catalytic converters, including radiant/convector
– ILFE fires
– DFE fires
– Convector heaters and stoves
– Balanced flue gas fires and balanced fan assisted wall heaters

Practical and theory assessments take place throughout the duration of this assessment.

Entry Requirements

You must hold either CCN 1 or CoCDN 1 Core Domestic qualification.


Once the training and assessments have been successfully completed, you will receive a certificate from the certification body. The certificate is proof of competence.

Facilities and resources

Training takes place in our fully equipped Gas Training Workshop at our North Devon campus.


Q: Is there parking on site?

A: Pay and display parking is available in the car park adjacent to the workshop. There is a charge of £1.20 for the full day.
