Professional Accountant – Apprenticeship (Standard)
Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician have responsibility for creating, verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information either within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation.
A wide range of financial management skills and applications will be studied and you will develop competencies in drafting financial statements for limited companies, recommending accounting systems strategy as well as constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports.
This Higher Apprenticeship covers high level accounting, finance topics and tasks. As this occupation covers two areas of specialism – accounting and tax – you will cover the core requirements common to both areas and one of the two technical knowledge option requirements.
By studying for this qualification, you will acquire professional accountancy and finance skills that will be useful throughout your career including:
– Drafting financial statements for limited companies.
– Knowledge and skills in complex management accounting techniques.
– The ability to analyse accounting systems and their associated controls.
– Knowledge and skills in specialist accountancy and finance subjects.
You will study specialist areas such as tax, auditing, credit management, cash and treasury management, as well as completing the following diplomas within the apprenticeship, both of which are awarded by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT):
– Level 4 Diploma in Business Skills
– Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting
The assessment plan includes two distinct elements: an on-programme assessment and an end-point assessment. The on-programme assessment will evaluate your development of industry knowledge, skills and behaviours throughout the apprenticeship. Once you are competent in these areas you will go on to complete the end-point assessment.
You must be employed in the relevant industry and should have prior attainment of an AAT Level 3 qualification.
The Professional Accounting/Tax Technician standard allows student registration with a number of UK Professional Bodies in this sector. If you seeks to become a member of a Professional Body there may be other requirements specific to the relevant Professional Body, which may be taken as part of, or alongside, the apprenticeship at the employer’s and candidate’s discretion.
Completion of the Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Apprenticeship may lead to the candidate receiving credits towards the completion of the Professional Accountant/Tax Apprenticeship or Chartered Accountancy/Taxation qualifications provided by the relevant Professional Bodies. Completion of the Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Apprenticeship may also result in credits being awarded towards relevant undergraduate degree programmes.
