Technical Diploma in Site Carpentry
This carpentry study programme will help you to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to practise carpentry on a construction site.
You will study a range of units which include:
– First and second fix
– Structural carcassing
– Carpentry maintenance
– Use of circular saws
– Health and safety
All units are covered in theory and practical sessions.
Your study programme will also include tutorial sessions and work experience. You will also study Maths and English if you have not already achieved a GCSE at grade 4 or above in these subjects.
You will undertake practical assessments to make sure you have acquired the high skill levels you will need in the industry. There will be a number of knowledge tests to take on our Virtual Learning Environment for each unit. You will need to pass these to achieve the qualification.
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, or equivalent, to include a grade 4 in Maths and in English. You must have also successfully completed a Level 1 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery.
Upon successful completion of this course, you can advance to an Apprenticeship Standard at Level 2.
Facilities and resources
Workshops equipped with wood machines, power tools and hand tools, will be used to deliver the practical training. Theory sessions will be taught in fully-equipped classrooms with smart boards and other teaching and learning devices.
Q: Is there any equipment needed to participate in this course?
A: Yes, you will need to buy safety boots which are mandatory. You will also need to provide your own stationery and textbooks. A full equipment list will be provided at interview.
Q: Are there any costs for this course?
A: Students are asked to pay a contribution towards trips throughout the year which may incur a cost.
