Wood Occupations Architectural Joinery

This is an advanced NVQ only course and is available for candidates who are 19+, employed or self-employed, with experience in the trade of Joinery, able to work with complex tasks.

There are eight mandatory units and two optional units in the NVQ qualification. You will study these over a period of two years.

There are specific sets of knowledge and skills for each unit which must be achieved. The assessment briefings and the support of your assessor will give you the information you need to achieve each criteria.

Mandatory Units:
– Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
– Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
– Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
– Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
– Producing setting out details for routine bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace
– Marking out from setting out details for routine bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace
– Manufacturing routine bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace
– Manufacturing bespoke bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace

Optional Units:
– Setting up and using fixed machinery in the workplace
– Producing setting out details for bespoke bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace
– Producing cad setting out details in the workplace
– Setting up and using fixed machinery in the workplace
– Producing setting out details for bespoke bench/architectural joinery products in the workplace
– Producing cad setting out details in the workplace

Course details

Assessments

Whilst at work you will gather evidence of on-the-job competence for your NVQ portfolio. You will be assigned an assessor who will guide you through this process and support you in building your portfolio. The NVQ is assessed using a variety of methods such as direct observations, witness testimonies and more. Knowledge will be assessed by completing a range of questions for each unit.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade D or above.

Progression

Upon completion of this course, you can become a carpenter.

A: Yes but it varies depending on circumstances. This will be discussed during the interview.

A: Yes. It is up to you to provide evidence of skills, knowledge and behaviours at the workplace.
