Workskills@liberty
This course supports those who aspire to go into employment but are not quite ready to enrol on an Internship. It is designed to improve employability skills through working at Petroc’s Liberty Centre.
You will benefit from a supportive working environment where you can improve your confidence, customer service and teamwork skills.
The course includes a work placement for two days a week in the Liberty Centre Cafe where you will gain experience in customer service, catering, handling money, budgeting and working in a team within the placement. You will also have the added responsibility of marketing the cafe.
For one day a week, you will come to college for your curriculum work which includes tutorials, Maths and English, and employability skills.

Assessments
Learner’s who have not achieved grade 4’s in Maths and English will have the opportunity to work towards achieving them through formal exams. Informal assessments will be gathered by your tutor and Liberty Centre Manager when in the Liberty kitchen and restaurant, plotting progress made in soft skills such as teamwork, working independently, using initiative and following instructions. Your improvements in catering and customer service will be assessed by observations.
Entry Requirements
For all learners joining Entry Level Study Programmes, there are no formal entry requirements, however you will have a one-to-one interview to discuss your personal learning needs. You will also be required to study English and Maths at an appropriate level to suit your ability.
Progression
Upon completion of this course, you can progress onto one of the college’s Internship programs.

You will utilise the Liberty Centre – a social enterprise hub that will provide you with realistic context-specific opportunities to enable you to become ready for employment and supported employment. At the heart of The Liberty Centre is a busy and vibrant café, open to the public with a commercial kitchen.
Study Programme
Every full-time student at Petroc will have their own Study Programme which will include:
– Your academic or vocational qualification.
– Maths and English Language development – if you have not achieved GCSE grade 4 in either of these subjects.
– Work Experience – hours will vary depending on your qualification and course level.
– Tutor Support – to support your personal, academic and professional development.
– Sustainability – helping you to identify how you can improve the sustainability of your future employment sectors.
– Personal Development Awards – developing six key areas of personal and employability behaviours to prepare you for the working world.
