This course is designed to improve the employability skills of learners through working at Petroc’s Liberty Centre. The course supports those who aspire to go into employment but are not quite ready to enrol on an Internship.
You will benefit from a supportive working environment where you can improve your confidence, customer service and teamwork skills.
The course includes a work placement for two days a week in the Liberty Centre Cafe where you will gain experience in customer service, catering, handling money, budgeting and working in a team within the placement. You will also have the added responsibility of marketing the cafe.
For one day a week, you will come to college for your curriculum work which includes tutorials, Maths and English, and employability skills.
Learner’s who have not achieved grade 4’s in Maths and English will have the opportunity to work towards achieving them through formal exams. Informal assessments will be gathered by your tutor and Liberty Centre Manager when in the Liberty kitchen and restaurant and plot the progress made in the soft skills such as teamwork, working independently, using initiative and following instructions. The learner’s improvements in catering and customer service will be assessed by observations.
For all learners joining Entry Level Study Programmes, there are no formal entry requirements, however you will have a one-to-one interview to discuss your personal learning needs. You will also be required to study English and Maths at an appropriate level to suit your ability.
Upon completion of this course, you can progress onto one of the college’s Internship programs.
