High quality placements alongside ongoing training.
Traineeships offer young people, aged between 16 and 23, the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence and experience required for the workplace.
They are a meaningful and structured work placement which provide insight and experience of the world of work, with the intention of moving into employment, an apprenticeship or vocational training on completion.
A Traineeship can last between 6 weeks and 6 months. Most of our trainees work two or three days a week for six hours per day, and will attend Petroc for one day a week to work towards their maths and/or English (if required) and complete a series of short courses including First Aid, Health and Safety, Safe Moving and Handling, Customer Service and Fire Awareness. Trainees work for free for the duration of their time with you, however we do ask employers that they reimburse travel expenses or any clothing/equipment needed for their placement, where possible.
Almost any workplace can offer a Traineeship and we have placed trainees in a range of industries including Health & Social Care, Painting and Decorating, Administration, Graphic Design and Hair & Beauty. The only areas that we can’t place a learner in are where a professional qualification is needed to progress within that chosen role (such as medicine or teaching).
Hiring a Trainee
We work closely with our trainees and employers to match the right candidate to the right business. If we don’t have a trainee available, we can advertise your Traineeship for you on the National Apprenticeship website and the Petroc Job Shop website. We can also assist you with advertising in the local press.
Becoming a Trainee
When you sign up to a Traineeship, our work placement coordinator will meet with you to talk through the process in more detail, fill out a simple health and safety form with you and provide you with safeguarding information.
