THE GOAL!

Petroc and the Chelsea FC Foundation have a vision: To provide young footballers in North Devon the opportunity to receive professional coaching to help them realise their footballing potential.

The Chelsea FC Foundation (CFCF) Academy at Petroc will deliver a specialist and uniquely tailored experience to improve those who are technically and tactically capable of playing the beautiful game at a higher level.

WHO CAN JOIN? 

The Football Academy is open to male and female Petroc students aged between 16-19 years old.

You do not have to be studying a sport-related course – you just need to be a passionate, enthusiastic and committed footballer, with aspirations to play football at a higher level.

WHO ARE THE COACHES?

All CFCF Academy staff are UEFA-qualified coaches.

They will provide you with unending knowledge, support and encouragement, and will work tirelessly to plan and deliver a development program that gives you the best chance of achieving your footballing goals.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The Academy curriculum develops the skills and talents of all players in the team to ensure they can contribute to team success. It focuses on the key positions within a team and develops the techniques needed in each area to become an exceptional player.

The curriculum includes:

Goalkeepers

• Handling techniques - when to catch, when to parry
• Positioning on crosses
• Decision making
• Shot stopping
• Distribution
• Positioning in open play
• Develop tactical knowledge of a goalkeeper’s role in the team
• Maintaining possession

Defenders

• Defending when in possession
• Defending when organised
• Defending when outnumbered
• Defending as a unit
• Develop tactical knowledge of a defender’s role in the team
• Maintaining possession

Midfielders

• Maintaining possession
• Developing awareness of teammates and opponents
• Develop tactical knowledge of a midfielder’s role in the team
• Defensive responsibilities
• Attacking responsibilities

Attackers

• Finishing
• Movement
• Maintaining possession
• Develop tactical knowledge of an attacker’s role in the team
• Finishing from crosses
• 1v1 finishing

• Personalised, flexible and individual training exercise plan.
• Chelsea FC Guest speakers and Chelsea FC stadium and museum tour (subject to availability).

WILL I PLAY ANY MATCHES?

Each year, the CFCF Academy squads will take part in a range of competitions including the Association of Colleges (AoC) leagues, tournaments and Cup Competitions. As the academy grows there may be further opportunities to play in additional competitions.

Most fixtures will take place on a Wednesday afternoon.
