Biography

Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
Petroc was the most convenient to me but also offered a range of courses which interested me and teachers who are enthusiastic about their subjects.

And what made you pick this particular course?
I studied Sociology at GCSE level and really enjoyed it and wanted to carry this on to a higher level to gain a more in depth understanding.

I had always had an interest in Psychology from reading books and articles prior to A-levels so I was always enthusiastic about taking it as one of my options.

I chose Law because I thought it would be beneficial in the future to have an understanding of the English Legal System and court procedures, I underestimated how much I would enjoy it and I am now so glad I chose it.

What have been the highlights so far?
Law has given me many opportunities in trips and projects. My favourite trip was the courts in Plymouth which allowed me to take part in a mock trial with a real judge and learn what everyday life was like in the courts. I really enjoyed this and it encouraged my motivation to carry on studying Law.

Legal Apprentice allowed me to learn what life was like outside the courts for lawyers and to complete tasks to increase my understanding of other areas of Law which are not covered in my course. Furthermore it gave access to compete for a place at Kingsley Napley.

What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
The teachers are really enthusiastic about their subjects and easy to talk to as well as encouraging students to stay motivated and always progress. Furthermore the opportunities available really add to engagement in the courses. Teachers also encourage you to get involved in course related talks and events outside of the classroom.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
I am planning to attend the University of Bath in October 2021 to study Social Policy with a placement year.

What’s the long-term plan?
I would really like to work for a charity or in the third sector.

Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
Make sure you are interested in the subjects or it will be hard to stay motivated (especially when memorising cases for law) but if you already have an interest then they are great subjects, be sure to get involved in as many opportunities as you can – you wont regret it!
