Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
I chose Petroc as it was local to me, it was convenient and the schedule fitted around my work.
And what made you pick this particular study programme/course?
I wanted to be more familiar with the interpersonal side of the working with people as I want to be a Physiotherapist. Also I’m doing an Access Course online that was changing subjects to Psychology, I thought that studying another Biology based subject would help me stay on track.
Which elements of your study programme/course do you particularly enjoy?
The class-based learning sessions were informative, entertaining and had a variety of learning methods that kept everyone engaged. The practical side was very worthwhile and gave us plenty of exposure to scenarios; the tutor giving us great demonstrations and a safe space to learn our trade.
What have been the highlights so far?
We went to two local sports meets where we were able to experience a very different style of massage. There we learned how we could make the routines more personalised and efficient due to the fast-paced nature of sporting events.
What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
Petroc has great facilities and lots of space which really helps. Every building seems customised to its subject which helps you to relax in an environment where you feel comfortable.
What do you plan to do when you leave college?
I have a place at UWE Bristol to study Physiotherapy in September 2020. I plan to become a Physiotherapist, pursue research and try my hand at health promotion/journalism.
Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
My advice would be to take the theory side as seriously as the practical side. Although what you present to the client face-to-face seems the most significant, the underpinning knowledge and understanding is what the client is really trusting you with. Take your time with learning, ask questions, stay engaged with the tutor and always be ready to put yourself in the client’s shoes; dignity is paramount.
