Biography

Jake joined the army when he was 17, and when he left aged 22, he went on to work in various engineering manufacturing settings across North Devon. After a few different roles, Jake approached Grills Renovations who were advertising for an apprentice and hasn’t looked back!

“I feel totally supported in my apprenticeship. There are six of us at home – I have four kids – so a career change when I’m the only one earning has been very difficult, but it’s been amazing, and my employer has made sure that I can do this. I would recommend anybody that wants a career change to just definitely go for it, you never know until you take that jump. I’m pleased I did it. I love going to work and I hate having time off because I enjoy it so much. I enjoy coming into college, they’re a good bunch of lads, the teachers are good and very knowledgeable. I plan on doing the level three from next summer and hopefully trying to get that under my belt.”
