James Joyce

Biography

I chose to come to Petroc as they had the course I wanted to do and it was local to home. I started on a basic buildings skills course, then realised I wanted to be a carpenter so did my NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Site Carpentry.

I’ve enjoyed all aspects but being an apprentice while studying has enabled me to learn from skilled tradesmen and women on-the-job, which has helped with my college learning.

The tutors on my particular course were so helpful – they were there for me 24/7.

I worked for Ware Construction, they were and still are an amazing company to work for. This company works very closely with the college and although all of their work is in Somerset so I travel daily, they have been really brilliant, patient and understanding.

I’m now a fully qualified Carpenter and still work for Ware Construction, one day I hope to have my own business.

My advice for someone thinking of choosing this course is to do it and don’t look back. It’s the best course I’ve studied and gives you skills for life to take all over the world.
