I decided to go to Petroc due to it being accessible to me with commuting from home and also the fact they offered the foundation degree part-time. This was a huge deciding factor for me, due to not being able to fully give up working.
There couldn’t be more of a contrast than coming from a dance and performing background, to then choose to study Computing. I was always curious as to how you have infinite opportunities to create applications at the touch of your fingertips with a computer.
The lecturers at Petroc were so helpful, it made my time studying there such a lovely experience. The campus is also lovely and not far from the town center.
I now volunteer as a STEM ambassador, by raising young people’s engagement and achievements in STEM subjects and careers. IT and Computing as a sector, has a major lack of female presence and I wanted to help bridge the gender gap and encourage other women to do the same.
I’m now in the final year of my top up to my degree, I am hoping to move into Big Data and data analytics. I will then perhaps return to education and carry out a Masters in Data Analytics.
This course is fantastic for giving you a wide range of skills and knowledge in the different areas of Computing. Do not think that you may not have the current skills to be able to study this course, take it from someone who truly thought there would be no way I could do it. If you work hard and put in the time and effort needed, you will flourish.
