Biography

Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
I work at Petroc and saw the courses advertised. I thought it was great that there were so many funded courses as I wanted to increase my knowledge in several areas.

And what made you pick this particular course?
Digital skills were essential with what happened in 2020 – my trajectory of learning had to increase rapidly!

Mental health is essential to be informed about when you work with people, as there is so much to know in order to be suitably supportive.

Autism is very important, as the numbers identified and diagnosed increases and I believe all in education – and parents – should be encouraged to do this.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
I plan to carry on learning – I am now studying for a Masters through Durham university.

What’s the long-term plan?
I would like to train others on working with children and young people.

Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
Just go for it! It is so important to keep learning no matter what your age, background or previous education. It transforms your thinking, expectations and awareness of the world.
