A Level courses at Petroc

To take FOUR AS Levels (leading onto 3 A Levels in year 2) we require you to have GCSE grade 5 in both maths and English Language alongside a minimum of three other GCSE’s at C or above as per our prospectus. We maintain that for academic students, those who wish to progress careers through graduating with Oxford, Cambridge or Russell Group universities this should remain the entry requirements.

Jenny Gibson-Mee, our Assistant Principal for Arts & Science, discusses our Entry Requirements in the video below.

We acknowledge that the new GCSE grading structure has yet to settle and that this is a transition year for the new 9 to 1 GCSE grades for maths and English.

Our advice is completely student centred, we listen to each applicant; we look at your whole achievement picture, your school’s recommendation and we will work with you to tailor a study programme to meet your needs.

If you want to follow an academic A Level programme at Petroc and have achieved a GCSE grade 4 in maths and English alongside other good GCSE grades, then bring the whole achievement picture to your interview and together we will tailor a study programme to match your career aspirations.

Continuation onto Year 2 of the A level programme will be dependent on achieving at least a grade D at AS in the subjects being continued to A2.
