Collaboration in Action: Petroc College Leads AI Technology Reference Group to Support Local Schools
Petroc’s Interim Principal and CEO, Kurt Hintz, has spearheaded an innovative AI Technology Reference Group, working closely with headteachers across North Devon to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance education. The initiative, launched in response to local schools’ growing interest in AI, marks an exciting step in collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and digital transformation across the region.
The first AI Technology Reference Group meeting brought together educators, AI specialists, and school leaders to discuss the integration of AI into teaching and learning. Guest speaker Richard Foster-Fletcher, an AI thought leader from MKAI (Morality and Knowledge in Artificial Intelligence), shared insights on how AI can be embedded into education, ensuring schools remain at the forefront of technological advancements.

- AI in Education: How AI tools can support teachers, enhance learning, and streamline administrative tasks.
- Supporting SEND Students: Exploring AI’s role in adapting learning materials for students with additional needs.
- Teacher Training & CPD: The need for ongoing AI-focused professional development and digital upskilling for educators.
- Collaboration & Networking: Establishing regular AI knowledge-sharing forums for schools and colleges.

Discussions highlighted the potential of AI to enhance lesson planning, personalise learning, and reduce administrative burdens, freeing up teachers to focus more on supporting students. The group also explored ways to connect schools with AI training opportunities, helping staff build confidence in using AI-powered tools.
